The New Facebook Profile: A Tour of the Changes

Have you upgraded your Facebook profile to “The New Profile” yet? On Sunday, December 5th, a post about the changes was made on the Facebook blog here: http://blog.facebook.com/blog.php?post=462201327130. Facebook writes “You can upgrade immediately or learn more about the new features on this page: www.facebook.com/about/profile”.  I upgraded my profile and will share the 5 areas Facebook highlighted as having been changed with this new upgrade. (If you are here for a "Motivation Monday" holiday post, not to worry...I posted that early this morning as well. You can find it here.)

The New Facebook Profile Change/Upgrade #1:
Your Profile Summary/Introduction
"Your profile begins with a quick summary of who you are, from what you're doing now to where you grew up. Update your profile to give friends the most current information about you."

The New Facebook Profile Change/Upgrade #2:
Your Tagged Photos
"Recently tagged photos show friends what you've been up to. Your privacy settings have not changed. Only people you've allowed to view photos your're tagged in will see these photos. To hide a photo, roll over it and click X"

The New Facebook Profile Change/Upgrade #3:
Navigation
"Now you can navigate your profile from one central place, making it easier to get your info, photos, and more."

The New Facebook Profile Change/Upgrade #4:
Your Experiences
"Now you can share more about your work and education, and even include the friends who were there with you. Add individual projects, classes and other experiences by clicking the Edit link".

The New Facebook Profile Change/Upgrade #5:
Your Interests
"Now your profile is more visual and includes new interests, such as your favorite sports, people, and more.  To add something new, click the Edit link at the top of each section".

Please noteOnce you upgrade to the new profile format, it doesn't appear that you will be able to switch back.  There appears to be a disadvantage for us biz owners out there...the area just below your profile picture where you could describe yourself and include a link(s) to your website(s) is no longer there in the new profile format.  You do have the opportunity to share your website(s) in your "info" section under "contact information".  The downside is that "contact information" is the last item on the "info" section (5 items down, to be exact).   I will let you know as soon as I hear of a possible improvement or remedy for this.
