{How to Add Your Facebook Account(s) to Hootsuite} - A "Facebook Friday" Post

It’s our first “Facebook Friday” post.  Today’s post covers how to manage your facebook account (personal and business) in Hootsuite.  We talked about setting up your Hootsuite account for Twitter yesterday.  If you haven’t created your Hootsuite account, do that first and hop back over. J Should just take a minute or two.

Once you’ve created your Hootsuite and added Twitter, you’re ready to intergrate your Facebook account into Hootsuite.  Just below the Facebook instructions, I’ve included Facebook BUSINESS page instructions as well.  If you manage a personal and business facebook account, add your personal first, then business.  Both will come in handy!

How To Add Your Facebook Account to Hootsuite
  1. Login to Hootsuite and click on “add stream” on the top left-hand side of the page
  2. Click on the Facebook icon on the add stream pop-up window.
  3. You will see a “you do not have a Facebook profile yet” message.  Click on “add profile.”
  4. Click on the Facebook icon on the left.
  5. Then click on “connect with facebook” button. Make sure “automatically create a new tab for this profile” is selected.
  6. Click submit. If you see a message that says “this site requires that you connect with Facebook,” click “Connect” and login to your Facebook account.
  7. Your Hootsuite dashboard will now have your Twitter tab and a Facebook tab.

Your Facebook stream will include your news feed and a second column labeled “pending stream posts”.

How To Add Your BUSINESS Facebook Account to Hootsuite
  1. Login to Hootsuite and click on “add stream” on the top left-hand side of the page
  2. Click on the Facebook PAGE  icon on the add stream pop-up window.
  3. Click on the Facebook page icon on the left.
  4. Select your Facebook business page icon for your page and click on “Create Stream”.
  5. Your Hootsuite dashboard will now have your Twitter tab, a Facebook tab, and a Facebook business page tab.  J

We’ll talk next Friday about how to schedule Facebook posts and/or Facebook business page posts using Hootsuite.  I didn’t want this post to be too long, and also think it will be good for you to spend time getting used to using Hootsuite for your Facebook page and/or Facebook business page before we dive into scheduling.

Along those lines, here are a few basic tips on using hootsuite for Facebook / Facebook business page commenting and posting.

Hootsuite Tips for Facebook &/or Facebook Business Pages

  1. You can follow your Facebook news feed using Hootsuite.  Essentially, everything you see on your “home” facebook screen will show in Hootsuite.  Friends status updates, photos, and even the comments back and forth. To do this, click on your Facebook “stream” (essentially a tab) in Hootsuite after you login and you’ll see the news feed for Facebook.
  2. If you’d like to view or make a comment on a friend’s status update or post, click on  the “comments” link on their post.  This will display any comments made and give you a box to type in your own comment to add.
  3. You can view photos from an album or wall post at full-size by clicking on the photo.
  4. If a photo is actually a thumbnail preview for a link (such as a blog post), when you click on the photo, it will take you to the page for that link (such as the blog post or website)
Next week we’ll talk about scheduling status updates for your Facebook personal and/or business page(s).  This is where Hootsuite really makes a big difference in your time management.
