How to Schedule Posts in Facebook (for Page Admins)

Image
Do you schedule Facebook page posts in advance using third-party apps like Hootsuite? You may already know posts made with these apps are less likely to be read, but we have all done it from time to time. Exciting news for Facebook page admins! Facebook recently announced their own scheduling feature.   I’m most excited about this because it means the “posted from Hootsuite” text and icon are no longer necessary when you must schedule a post.  If you are a business owner and page admin with a longer to-do list than there are hours in the day (or if you simply want more free time), the new Facebook scheduling feature will allow you to provide content to your fans in less time than was previously possible, without using a third party app! How to Schedule Posts in Facebook (for Page Admins) : Refer to the official Facebook graphic below. How Far Out Can I Schedule? At the time of this post, Facebook posts can be scheduled up to six months in advance at 15-minute intervals. Any Cons? One c

Featured App and Tutorial: Flickr

Image
Screenshot of one of my Flickr albums from the N Chas Arts Festival Are you a blogger who takes photos with your iPhone?  Have you been emailing the photos to yourself (one at a time) to save on your computer for posting on your blog? I’m embarrassed to admit that is what I was doing just a few months ago.  It can be downright exhausting (smile).  I knew there was a better way! So, I turned to Flickr to see if there was a mobile app.  Of course, there was. Why hadn't I thought of this sooner? Before I share the details on how to use this super-easy (and free) app, I want to mention there is another mover and shaker app that allows you to save photos from your iPhone to your computer.  I’m sure I will give that a go next, and review it for you here.  Until then, I’m sharing Flickr info.  After all, plenty of bloggers like to drive traffic to their Flickr accounts, so it is still a winning app for me. This is an app review and tutorial in one. I've reviewed a few other apps as

Coming June 15: 10 Women. 10 Businesses. 10 Questions.

Image
Friends, I have something exciting to share with you for the summer. For the first time, I'm participating in a collaborative blogging project called "10 Women. 10 Businesses. 10 Questions", thanks to the talented Robin Norgren .  More information is below! In 2010, hundreds of women met through an online e-course offered by Kelly Rae Roberts called Flying Lessons where all were challenged to take their business ideas to their fullest potential.  Many of those women took the challenge and have transformed their businesses, juggling successes and failures alongside managing family, friendships and personal lives. In 2012, the 101010 project was birthed as a way to tell the stories that have come out of running these independent businesses in light of hard economic times.  Beginning June 15, 2012 you are invited to join the SECOND SET of 10 women from that 2010 e-course who will offer candid information about their businesses through the vehicle of 10 questions.   CLICK H

Mobli App: A “Do” or a “Don’t”?

Image
In doing research for new apps to feature on this blog, I came across an app called “Mobli” that seemed a little like instagram on steroids.  From what I gathered, it’s a photo sharing app that allows you to share photos across multiple social platforms.  In fact, I “found” Mobli when I noticed a friend was sharing photos on Twitter via the app.  There’s also an explore/discover kind of feel to Mobli.  You can follow photo streams based on keywords or scan photos from people in your own area.  Here’s the thing – I can’t wholeheartedly recommend the app.  I'm sharing my experience with you below. Since I wanted to discover and personally use new apps (in addition to my favorites) with you on this blog, I downloaded the Mobli app.  I wanted to get comfortable with it before I shared my experience with you. So, I downloaded Mobli and began looking around.  The first thing I did was look for my  friends (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) on Mobli. Was it easy to find them? Turns out, not many o

Featured App: What the Font

Image
It’s time for another fun “featured app” review.  I kicked the series off with a review of Diptic ( here in case you missed it).  Today’s app has a clever name that is easy to remember: “What the Font”.  A little sassy, sure.  Name of app : What the Font How I heard about it: Mandi and Sarah Katherine of the Columbia CVB – some of the nicest and most knowledgeable gals you’ll ever meet. About the app : What the Font helps you identify the fonts used on just about anything.  All you have to do is snap a picture of the unknown font and upload it via your iPhone.  The app then searches its database (powered by myfonts.com) and returns a variety of matches.  What I love most: All the time I’m saving! And being able to snap photos of “old” printed pieces (even records) with a good chance their handy system will find a close match! Cost of app: Free (at the time of this post).  Look for it in the App store.  Not an iPhone user? Not to worry.  You can also upload your photo to their website

Valuable Tweets That May Be Costing Your Business Money

Image
If you’re an avid Twitter user, you likely scan your “mentions” and “interactions” on Twitter on a daily basis (if not more frequent than that). But, if you tweet for a business, you may be overlooking a valuable tool on twitter.   Not to sound alarmist, but there may be conversations happening on Twitter right now about your business that you aren’t aware of.   Compliments, complaints, questions, you-name-it.   How is this possible?   Reasons you may be missing tweets about your business: People often assume your Twitter name instead of looking it up.   If your business is ABC Sign, most will assume @ABCSign instead of a variation of that, like @ABC_Sign or @ABC_Sign_Co or @1ABCSign, is your Twitter handle.   People may not use your Twitter name (“handle”), but instead may simply type in your business name, such as “ABC Sign.” Others may hashtag your   business name instead of using your handle (example: #ABCSign) How can you get involved in conve
